How to Become a Christian

What does it mean to become a Christian? What is Salvation? What does it mean to be right with God?

Jesus, God’s only Son, our Savior and Lord, gave His life that we might be forgiven of our sins.  He has come that we might have life and have that life more abundantly (John 10:10).  If you haven’t asked Him to forgive you, this is your opportunity to pray a prayer like this:

Dear God,

I am a sinner and I know that I can’t save myself.  I thank you for your Son, Jesus, who can save me.  He shed His precious blood on the cross and died for me.  He was buried in a tomb but came back to life and now is praying for me and preparing to come again to take me to be with Him. I confess my sins and ask for forgiveness.  I accept your forgiveness and with a life of thanksgiving will I live my life for you until you come again!

In Jesus Name, Amen

What’s Next?

Your decision to follow Jesus Christ is the most important decision you will ever make. We want to celebrate with you. Make your decision public by walking to the front during the final song of our worship celebration to share your decision with the pastor and the church fellowship.

Those who have made a public profession of faith may enter into the membership by vote of the Church in one of the following ways:

  1. By New Testament baptism, in obedience to Jesus’ command,

  2. By statement of previous baptismal experience by immersion,

  3. By statement of faith only when baptism would likely result in physical, emotional, and/or mental harm to the person.

You, your family, and your friends are welcome anytime.  We welcome you as a new believer, a brother or sister in Christ or as a person seeking “the way, the truth and the life” (John 14:6).

We are grateful for the opportunity to help one another in Jesus name.

And then what?

It is important to start reading and studying God’s Word, the Bible. But where do I start, you might say. Christian organization “Desiring God” has many resources for new and growing believers. The following article, Bible Reading for New Believers: Five Steps to Get Started, is a good place to start.
